Innermost – YOY Wall Light by YOY Studio

Innermost YOYWall light Red Dot Award LightForm blogInnermost’s Yoy Wall light cleverly projects an image of a lamp shade onto the wall

The YOY Wall is a decorative LED wall sconce that cleverly projects the shape of a lamp shade. Designed by YOY Studio for innermost. YOY Wall is a simple idea very well executed often makes the best product, and this minimal wall light makes a great talking point. It is arguably the most minimal wall sconce possible, interacting with and using the wall in more than just a supporting role. The detail within YOY Wall is cleverly hidden; a single LED unit that casts a very powerful glow through an aperture to create the optical illusion.

Axo Light – Orchid Light by Rainer Mutsch

Axo Light - Orchid Light by Rainer Mutsch LightForm Blog

The new Orchid lighting collection from AxoLight consists of wall lamps, ceiling lamps, suspended lamps and floor lamps. Available in several colours. Built-in dimmable LED light source.

Austrian designer Rainer Mutsch designs Orchid for Axolight, a collection of lamps with two separate yet complementary souls: one outer – that of nature, exuded by its flower shaped diffuser and its rod; the other, more hidden, is high-tech with avant-garde LED technology.

Rainer Mutsch: “As a designer, I feel that nature is a major source of inspiration. In Orchid’s case I was studying how buds are connected to stems: and that’s what sparked the idea to develop a multidirectional floor lamp that could include direct lighting and diffused lighting in a single item. For the shape of the diffuser I was inspired by the funnel shape of the flower; I’m fascinated by how the flower seems relatively fragile near the stem and how then it reveals all its beauty when it blooms. Experimenting with these shapes I began sketching out a new diffuser, which thanks to its shape is capable of visualizing the spread of the light.”

It is so sculpturesque that it takes centre stage in the space even when turned off and stands out the most especially when a number of lamps are used in combination. Precisely thanks to its versatility, it works both in residential settings and in contract projects of a larger scope.

Axo Light – Alysoid by Ryosuke Fukusada

Axo Light - Alysoid Light by Ryosuke Fukusada LightForm Blog
AxoLight’s new Alysoid suspension lights

Designer Ryosuke Fukusada created the ‘alysoid’ by suspending a chain from two sides of the installation. The result forms a pure and natural shape, as well as builds upon its grandeur and awing level of beauty. The chains themselves are made of small spheres, which are seen more typically in fashion and jewelry design. When the light touches the hanging bracelets, a charming atmosphere is evoked through an ocean of ever-changing and moving glimmers. A volume of air and light fills the space inside the suspension, enabling people to view through the installation and help ensure the design fully integrates within the interior. Alysoid was recently on display in Toronto at the Architects@Work trade show.

Axo Light – U-Light by Timo Ripatti

Axo Light - U-Light by Timo Ripatti LightForm Blog

The U-Light is a series of luminous circles and half-circles that are either suspended or mounted onto the wall or ceiling. Indeed, the U-Light collection includes two different models, which share the same circular aluminium element. The first version, which was presented in 2016 and includes three suspension lamps, teams together two curved lines: an upside-down U-shaped line and a ring underneath it where the light source is housed. The new 2017 version, which is even more graphic, consists of a single circular element and it is available as a suspension lamp, a wall lamp (also available in a semi-circle) and a ceiling lamp. In both models the LED light source incorporated into the frame diffuses a soft dimmable white light.

U-Light can be positioned individually or in clusters, for an intense, theatrical effect. U-Light is extremely light-weight, yet it fills the space up and distinguishes installations with a strong scenic effect, proving a malleable tool for architects and designers who wish to define any type of setting with shape and light. Come see it on display in our Toronto lighting showroom.

Davide Groppi – Infinito by Davide Groppi

Davide Groppi - Infinito by Davide Groppi LightForm Blog

Infinito: essence and absence.

Infinito is a spatial concept; it is continuous light. A thin strip made of stainless steel a mere 18 mm in width “cuts” a space to produce indirect light. The graphic force of this system is surprising. It can be integrated into space, but at the same time it becomes part of that space.

The Infinito and Flash lights are all part of a system. It’s one that breaks down the actual lamp and light source, turning it into something else, leaving only a trace, a line, and then not even that. It becomes, finally, a concept: light only. This project pays homage to the art of Lucio Fontana and his spatial concepts. It is possible to adapt Infinito to various situations, stretching it from wall to wall or ceiling to floor, according to one’s taste or needs. Infinito comes in strips up to 12 m in length. Currently being installed in our Toronto lighting showroom!

Fontana Arte – Equatore by Gabriele & Oscar Buratti

Fontana Arte - Equatore by Gabriele & Oscar Buratti LightForm Blog
Equatore table lamps from Fontana Arte

Equatore is a contemporary reinterpretation of the classic lamp with a glass shade. While the traditional abat-jour uses the shade to contain the light source within, in this family of lamps the shade is paradoxically and suggestively empty, with the light being generated by two luminous discs placed inside a central metal band, visible on the shade, that evokes the line of the equator. The light produced by the LEDs, thanks to internal screens arranged in layers, is distributed regularly across the surface of the discs, magically illuminating them.

The lower disk directs the light output downward, the upper one illuminates the glass cap for a soft, diffused light. Available in table, floor, and ceiling models, in two sizes and two colours: a cooler version in grey with a dark chrome frame, and a warmer version with a transparent dove grey cap and a copper-coloured frame.

Normann Copenhagen – Acrobat Table Lamp by Marc Venot

Normann Copenhagen - Acrobat Table Lamp by Marc Venot LightForm Blog

French designer Marc Venot’s innovative magnetic lamp can be placed both vertically and horizontally in multiple positions.

Marc Venot: “An acrobat is someone who can do extraordinary things without losing their balance. It looks like he is going to fall over at any given moment, but he does not. He toys with gravity itself, leaving the observer fascinated and surprised. This is the kind of effect I wanted to create with this lamp. My greatest hope is that the user will experience the same fascination, and feel like touching and understanding the lamp”.

Marset – Copernica Lamp by Ramirez i Carrillo

Marset - Copernica Floor & Table Lamp by Ramirez i Carrillo LightForm BlogWith no more than fingertips, one can achieve a feeling of weightlessness with the Copérnica lamp. As if levitating, it moves through space effortlessly, without friction or resistance.

Circles, semicircles, tubes, and bars of different diameters, materials, and weights… with the combination of these primary elements the Copérnica collection constructs geometric sculptures of light, establishing an intimate relationship with space and combining functionality with the beauty of pure lines.

The collection consists of desktop and standing versions that play with counterweights of mixed materials and density, such as steel and aluminum. This design allows one to move the lamp with great precision, providing a wide range of heights, distances, and adjustments to the beam of light to suit one’s taste. Copérnica draws minimalist sculptures in space, as if it were a canvas, and the carefully selected colours add soft chromatic touches to the ensemble.
